Two young Brockton mothers, Boston man shot to death in Dorchester

The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass. www.enterprisenews.com By Maria Papadopoulos ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER BOSTON — Shante Gaines says she last spoke to her sister, Shacora, by cell phone around 9 pm Saturday, and at the time, her sister had planned to stay in with friends. She told me she was going to stay home, Gaines, 23, recalled from their Wilmington Street home Monday afternoon, clutching her sisters photograph. She was waiting for my cousin and her friend to get here and they were just going to hang out a little bit. Plans soon changed and Shacora Gaines, 20, decided to go to a late-night party in Boston with her friend, Chantal Palmer, 20, of Brockton. It would be a rare night out for the two Brockton friends, who were both young mothers and had lived houses away from each other on Brocktons north side. It would also be their last night out, as both young women were gunned down while sitting in a vehicle outside a party on Mount Ida Road in Dorchester early Sunday morning, according to Boston police. Investigators believe there was an argument before the shooting. Officers responded to 41 Mount Ida Road in Dorchester at 4:07 am Sunday, after receiving a report of shots fired. There, officers found three people suffering from gunshot wounds: Gaines, Palmer and Anthony Peoples, 19, of Boston. Peoples and Gaines were pronounced dead at the scene. Verizon Relaunches Kin Phones with No Required Data Plan

"Verizon (NYSE:VZ) officials announced Thursday that the carrier will once again offer Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Kin ONEm and Kin TWOm mobile devices - this time as featured phones, instead of smartphones. Verizon rebranded the phones from the original Kin One and Kin Two, which were launched in April, based on the software differences in the newly-named devices. The older Kin phones were more like the Windows Phone 7, based on their own OS. The new devices are priced at $19.99 with a two-year contract for the Kin ONEm (or $119.99 without a contract), and $49.99 for the Kin TWOm with a contract (or $219.99 without a contract). A bonus buy one get one free add-on is being offered by Verizon for Kin TWOm customers, who can opt in for a free LG Ally. The Kin-family phones, which originally aimed to appeal to younger mobile users, offer similar social network access to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, as well as Zune with Wi-Fi sideload and multi-media messaging. The phones previously required a $30 data plan, which Verizon has done now away with. A spokesperson for Verizon told PCMag.com, ""They provide an option for customers who liked the form factor of the previous Kin phones, but want an Internet-capable device that doesn't require a data plan.""
